Hi John
I really enjoy all of your Videos.I wanted to ask;I am a left handed drummer ,but my strong foot is the right one. I all the time change between left and right set up since after 10 years of playing left set up ,my right foot is better,
I do not like the open handed idea, but I am still frustrated with the left foot ability.
my question is ; should I stay with the left handed set up .and work on that ,or maybe to change to the open handed ,(maybe it is a sighn that I could be a better drummer with this set up )
right handed set up is a prolbem my right hand on the cymbal is undeveloped and weak.
well I must add I am 66 years old
many thanks

Hey John. I caught you at the Vanguard last month and I see on your schedule you will be at the University New Hampshire on Nov 11. I live right there and would like to see you then. Can you fill me in with the details of gig? Thanks. |

Hello John!
I played constantly from 1964 until just a few years ago, when the there were so few opportunities to play jazz, that I sold my drums and quit. But, after being away from playing for a few years, I couldn't stand it any longer, and am playing again. In that process, I'm also trying to re-invent myself, getting away from the too-flashy stuff I used to always attempt, and be a more supportive team player. (less Buddy Rich, and more John Riley/Jeff Hamilton/Peter Erskine, etc.)
Your very clear approach to pointing out all the nuances required to be a great jazz drummer are inspiring, and I simply wanted to thank you for that. I've become a fan of your work, and appreciate the quality of all that you do, very much. Take care, and keep swinging! |

Hi John, For the past several years I've been independently studying out of your books. Thank you for all that you've contributed to my own personal growth as a drummer and for all that you've done for the drumming community at large. I just got The Master Drummer book from Hudson and am looking forward to studying from it. But first, I need to finish working on the accented paradiddle triplets in The Jazz Drummer's Workshop :) |

Hi John, I saw your presentation last year at PASIC. Will you be publishing anything more on that and/or can you provide a link for the materials that you presented? |
